Nevada casinos open in February 2025

Last week, two new casinos were inaugurated in Las Vegas. However, neither of these casinos is a full-service property, unlike those located in the more tourist-oriented parts of Las Vegas.

The Ojos Locos Sports Cantina Y Casino was opened in North Las Vegas, roughly a 20-minute drive north from the Fremont Street Experience. Near Boulder Highway, the Wildfire on Fremont, a property of Station Casinos, was also opened. This casino is approximately a 10-minute drive to the east of the Fremont Street Experience.

Las Vegas is home to a variety of casinos. Typically, the ones located on the Vegas Strip or in downtown Las Vegas are either casino hotels or casino resorts, depending on the facilities they offer.

Casino hotels situated outside these two popular tourist areas are often referred to as “locals casinos.” These establishments offer comprehensive services, including restaurants, movie theaters, and bowling alleys, which are frequently enjoyed by Las Vegas residents. These casinos cater to locals or tourists seeking a unique or more affordable experience.

Finally, neighborhood casinos exist. These small-scale casinos, usually of the same size as retail outlets, are scattered throughout Las Vegas. They typically house gaming machines such as slots or electronic table games and are often situated in shopping plazas.

The two Nevada casinos that opened last week are categorized as neighborhood casinos.

Both casinos, predominantly built for local residents of the surrounding neighborhoods, are relatively small. They both feature machine games, sportsbooks, and several dining options.

Similar to several other off-strip neighborhood casinos, both lack live dealer table games or other entertainment options. However, this is usually acceptable for residents who are in search of a low-key spot to gamble and enjoy a meal or a drink.

Wildfire On Fremont

Station Casinos runs approximately a dozen local casinos in various Las Vegas neighborhoods. Some of their establishments in Henderson, NV are distinguished by their unique names or features:

  • Barley’s Casino & Brewery
  • The Greens
  • Wildfire Casino & Lanes

The Wildfire brand operates most of the neighborhood casinos owned by Station Casinos, located in various areas of Las Vegas:

  • Anthem
  • Boulder
  • Fremont
  • Lake Mead
  • Rancho
  • Sunset
  • Valley View

Wildfire on Fremont is situated away from the tourist-centric area of the street. To give you a better idea, it’s about a 30-minute walk or a 10-minute drive from the popular Fremont Street Experience.

The Wildfire on Fremont features a casino that spans 21,000 square feet. It’s equipped with roughly 200 slot machines, bar-top gaming, and a selection of electronic table games such as roulette and craps. Additionally, it offers a cozy sportsbook with eight seats and several keno-only machines.

For those looking to grab a bite, an IHOP and Tacos El Pastor are also available. Wildfire on Fremont features a bar as its centerpiece, equipped with 16 65″ TVs that can be somewhat seen from most parts of the casino.

The new casino also permits the utilization of STN Cash, which is Station Casinos’ cashless gaming platform.

Wildfire on Fremont, like other Station Casinos properties, is linked to the Boarding Pass rewards program. The points accumulated here can be redeemed at any other Station Casinos properties.

Ojos Locos Sports Cantina Y Casino

The Ojos Locos Sports Cantina Y Casino at Hotel El Jefe, located in North Las Vegas, is quite a long name. This establishment, which replaces the former Lucky Club, is being marketed as “the first U.S. hotel-casino dedicated to the Latino community.”

The Downtown Grand operators, Fifth Street Gaming, and the Ojos Locos Sports Cantina restaurant chain are collaborating on this project. Similar to Wildfire on Fremont, it’s a small community casino.

The casino spans 10,000 square feet and houses approximately 200 slot machines and electronic table games. Its main bar features video poker machines and can seat up to 35 people.

The Ojos Locos Sports Cantina location offers seating for 300 people, features 90 TVs for sports viewing across the property, and allows bettors to place wagers at the William Hill sportsbook.

The hotel, comprising of 90 rooms, is currently undergoing renovation. Although some rooms are still under construction, a few newly renovated ones are already available. The refurbishment of the entire hotel is expected to be completed by the end of the year, as per the schedule.

More Casinos Scheduled To Open This Year

Two traditional “Vegas-style” casinos are set to open by the end of this year.

The Fontainebleau, located on the north end of the Vegas Strip near Resorts World, Sahara, and Wynn, is set to open later this year.

The colossal 67-story blue building, which will house 3,000 hotel rooms and suites upon opening, is set to bring the luxurious “Fontainebleau culture” of South Beach to Las Vegas.

Details about the property are largely confidential, but it will feature multiple restaurants, a rooftop pool complex, day and night clubs, health and wellness facilities, along with meeting rooms and convention space.

The new property of Station Casinos, Durango Casino, is presently being constructed and is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter. It’s located in the southwest region of Las Vegas, just off the I-215 freeway.

The Durango Casino, spanning 83,000 square feet, will feature a comprehensive selection of machine games and live dealer table games. It will also be equipped with a cutting-edge sportsbook. Additionally, the property will adopt the Boarding Pass rewards program from Station Casinos.

The hotel will feature 200 rooms. The casino offers various dining choices, including several full-service restaurants and a substantial food hall for those seeking a quick snack or one of Las Vegas’s finest coffee cups.
