[toc]Former National Football League star and current Nevada Department of Corrections parolee O.J. Simpson is threatening to sue The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
Simpson’s attorney Malcolm LaVergne wrote a letter to Cosmopolitan threatening a lawsuit. He also distributed it to media outlets last week. The letter claims Cosmopolitan staff, including those at STK Las Vegas and Clique Bar & Lounge, acted with malice and racial prejudice toward Simpson this past November. Plus, the letter also claims Simpson could sue for $100 million or more.
Simpson seen acting drunk and disorderly
Tabloid media outlet TMZ reported the now 70-year-old Simpson was acting in a drunk and disorderly manner at the The Cosmopolitan Clique Bar & Lounge before being banned from the property this past November.
The incident occurred only five weeks after Simpson was released from Lovelock Correctional Center in Northern Nevada. Simpson is currently on parole after serving nine years for armed robbery.
Simpson was originally sentenced to up to 33 years for his role in a 2007 armed robbery and kidnapping involving a pair of sports memorabilia dealers in a room at the Palace Station casino in Las Vegas. However, after serving nine years in prison, he was granted parole in July 2017. He was released from prison at the beginning of October. After that, the Californian immediately took up residency in Las Vegas.
Conditions of Simpson’s parole
Simpson is on parole until 2022. However, his time could be reduced for good behavior. Conditions of his parole include:
- A prohibition on leaving Nevada or changing his Las Vegas residence without permission from the Nevada Division of Parole and Probation.
- Having no association with convicted felons, people involved in criminal activity, or anyone else his parole officer decides he shouldn’t.
- A prohibition on weapons.
- A prohibition on illegal drugs or prescription drugs not prescribed by a licensed medical professional. While he is allowed to drink alcoholic, Simpson is prohibited from drinking to excess. Excess is defined as .08 blood-alcohol percent or higher, which is the legal limit for driving in Nevada.
Simpson is also required to submit a blood or breath test for drugs or alcohol any time the Nevada Division of Parole and Probation demands it.
Simpson rose to fame in the US throughout a Pro Football Hall of Fame career as an NFL running back. He then went on to become a successful broadcaster, actor, and ad spokesperson. However, he is now more widely associated with the murder of his former wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman.
Simpson’s past still follow him
In June 1994, Brown Simpson and Goldman were found stabbed to death outside her Brentwood, California-area home. Simpson was ultimately charged with their murders, kicking off a widely publicized trail dubbed the Trial of the Century.
In October 1995, Simpson was acquitted. The Goldman family later filed a wrongful death civil lawsuit against Simpson. Simpson was found liable for wrongful death and battery against Goldman, and battery against Brown Simpson. Resultingly, he was ordered to pay $33.5 million in damages.
Meanwhile, no other suspects has ever been identified or charged with the murders.
The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas is a luxury resort, casino and hotel on the Las Vegas Strip just south of the MGM property Bellagio. It opened in December 2010.
The property includes two highrise hotel towers with more than 3,000 rooms, a 110,000 square-foot casino, and 300,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space.
