Poker players all around the globe are thrilled as Caesars has unveiled the schedule for the 2016 World Series of Poker. The tournament series is set to kick off on May 31 and last till July 18 at the usual venue, the Rio All-Suite Las Vegas Hotel and Casino. The schedule now includes eight additional tournaments and the number of cash prizes has been increased for most of the tournaments.

WSOP Tournament Director Jack Effel addressed the changes in the payout structure in a statement made on February 23.

We anticipate the 2016 WSOP to be the most rewarding yet, as we are paying 50% more entrants and reaching the money earlier.

This year’s schedule truly caters to poker enthusiasts of all levels. We invite you to browse through the events and plan to join us this summer at the Rio.

The objective of boosting the number of players who make money is to raise the proportion of poker tourists who go back home after a winning experience in an event. The theory suggests that as more players get compensated, more players will come back in the subsequent years.

Highlights of the 2016 WSOP

The 2016 WSOP includes 69 bracelet events and numerous smaller buy-in satellites. This year, eight new tournaments have been introduced by the WSOP, including a team event and an eight-handed no-limit hold’em tournament with a guaranteed first place prize of $888,888.

Here is an overview of what you can anticipate from the eight new events:

  1. The $1,000 Top Up Turbo No-Limit Hold’em tournament is a two-day event, added to conclude the Colossus weekend. Labelled as a hybrid poker tournament by WSOP, players who cash in $55 satellites prior to the event can increase their starting stacks up to twice the regular amount.
  2. WSOP is promoting a $565 Pot-Limit Omaha tournament with re-entry, which they claim has the lowest price point ever for a bracelet event in this version of poker.
  3. A different buy-in for a traditional game – $2,000 No-Limit Hold’em.
  4. The event of $2,500 Mixed Triple Draw Lowball will showcase A-5, 2-7, and Badugi.
  5. An event that showcases two of the most favored poker games, $1,500 Mixed No-Limit Hold’em/Pot-Limit Omaha.
  6. In this tournament, all three popular versions of Omaha 8-or-better are played and it has a mixed pot-limit of $1,500. The versions include Omaha-8, Big O, and Omaha-8.
  7. This 8-handed No-Limit Hold’em tournament, named “888 Crazy Eights,” has a first-place guarantee of $888,888. The entry fee is $888. Can you figure out who the sponsor might be?
  8. The WSOP is bringing back team events with the $1,000 Tag Team No-Limit Hold’em. In this event, players can form a team of 2-4 members, who must register together.

The lowdown on WSOP 2016

The events start on May 31 with registration for series events and daily satellites. The first real tournament of the series, which is always the Casino Employees No-Limit Hold’em Tournament, will take place on June 1.

WSOP has announced that it has responded to a significant amount of player feedback received earlier, resulting in minor adjustments to this summer’s series. Notable alterations for this year’s series encompass modifications to the tournament structure, event timings, and the proportion of paid positions. One modification from the previous year, Event #66 – a no-limit hold’em tournament held online at WSOP NV, will once again be included in the schedule.
