A new casino for Northern Nevada bettors

On Thursday, Legends Bay Casino in Sparks, NV received approval from the Nevada Gaming Commission. The casino operated by Olympia Gaming is on schedule to open later this summer.

Legends Bay Casino has been in the works since 2008. The property stalled due to the last great recession. Plans for the property have changed in the past 20 years.

This approval is a significant milestone for the area. Legends Bay Casino will be the first new casino built from the ground up in northern Nevada in more than 20 years. This is another example of an expanding and thriving  Nevada gambling landscape.

Silver Legacy in downtown Reno was the last brand new casino in the area. It opened in 1995.

While the casino doesn’t have a set opening date, it appears as if Olympia Gaming is targeting an August opening.

Not a Las Vegas-style casino

This will be a modest casino compared to the most recent Nevada property built from the ground up. Olympia Gaming is not trying to create a Las Vegas-style casino.

For starters, there won’t be a hotel opening with the casino. Legends Bay Casino is being built at The Outlets At Legend shopping center.

The casino will offer 660 slot machines, 10 table games and live keno. As previously announced, Legends Bay Casino will have the Circa Sports location in northern Nevada.

Altogether the Legends Bay Casino will be an 80,000-square-foot venue.

For comparison, Resorts World Las Vegas was the last Nevada casino built from the ground up. The property has a 117,000-square-foot gaming floor with 1,400 slot machines, 117 table games and 30 poker tables.

There will be multiple dining options at Legends Bay Casino including a Food Truck Hall. The unique food hall concept will be a 5,000-square-feet dining and entertainment venue.

The food hall will have a variety of quick-serve outlets offering food from vintage restored trucks. For example, Pizza Genius will serve food from a 1940s’-era farm truck. Loco Bueno will offer food from a 1969 Chevy P30 step van.

Duke’s Steakhouse and Craft 55 both operate at Casino Fandango and will open new locations at Legends Bay. LB Grill will fill the role of an all-day cafe and round out the dining options.

Olympia Gaming also operates Casino Fandango in Carson City, NV. It does not appear as though the two properties will use the same rewards program. Future guests can pre-register for Legends Bay Rewards here.

Major hiring events for the new Sparks casino

If Legends Bay Casino plans to be open by the end of August, Olympia Gaming will have to hire a lot of people quickly. Court Cardinal, regional president of Olympia Gaming, the operator of Legends Bay Casino spoke to that with excitement after receiving approval to move forward:

“We can’t wait to not only bring 300 new and rewarding jobs to the community but also to introduce next-level gaming, dining, and entertainment experiences to the Reno-Sparks area…We encourage people who are looking for a wonderful new job opportunity to get a head start by applying online at legendsbaycasino.com to join our team.”

Legends Bay Casino will host multiple in-person hiring events at the Hampton Inn & Suites next to the property. The company will host weekly job fairs beginning Jul. 13. This will continue through Aug. 3.

Olympia Gaming plans to move quickly and hiring could take place immediately. Additionally, the company may offer a $500 signing bonus.

Legends Bay Casino will also offer guaranteed payment for each week of training. The company will be the equivalent of up to 40 hours for each week of the two-week training period.

Each job fair will focus on specific places of employment:
