This winter, the World Poker Tour (WPT) World Championship will be held at Wynn Las Vegas. The event, scheduled for Dec. 1-20, will be the first in poker history to guarantee a prize pool of $15 million.
This will go down in history as the biggest individual live tournament guarantee in poker. Following Wynn’s Summer Classic, which is currently ongoing, will be the WPT event.
WPT’s CEO, Adam Pliska, states:
In our 20-year history, the World Poker Tour has embarked on some ambitious initiatives and this is one of the most ambitious. We anticipate this festival to be highly awaited and are thrilled to collaborate with Wynn Las Vegas to make this concept a reality.
The $10,400 buy-in championship tournament will be the main event of the multi-tournament poker festival. This event will conclude with the final broadcast on television.
At least 200 qualifiers will be attending the WPT World Championship from playing online poker at ClubWPT. Numerous others will have the opportunity to qualify via various live satellites.
WPT World Championship events at Wynn Las Vegas
The WPT World Championship will comprise over twelve tournaments. Three events in particular will be prominent to players:
- The Championship of the Prime
- Mystery Bounty at Wynn
- World Poker Tour World Championship
According to Ryan Beauregard, the Executive Director of Poker Operations at Wynn Las Vegas,
At Wynn Las Vegas, we provide our guests with unparalleled poker experiences, enhanced by our world-class service and amenities. Collaborating with WPT, we’ve crafted a unique festival that is a must-attend event for all our existing and new players.
The 2022 WPT Prime Championship is set to occur from Dec. 8-12. The Esports Arena Las Vegas at Luxor will host the final table of the WPT Prime Championship. This venue is more suitable for TV broadcasting compared to the poker spaces at Wynn.
This event, with a $1,100 buy-in, could be one of the most popular and somewhat affordable aspects of this poker festival. A $2 million prize pool is guaranteed, and there will be no limit to re-entries per flight.
The WPT World Championship is set to have three “Day 1” flights on December 12, 13, and 14. A “freezeout” format will be included on each of these starting days.
During this event, participants are allowed one entry per flight. The champion will be announced on Dec. 20.
The WPT Championship at Wynn will conclude on Dec. 16-19 with the $2 million guaranteed Wynn Mystery Bounty. During this event, players can potentially win cash prizes of up to $100,000 after eliminating other competitors. Unlimited re-entries per flight will be allowed.
More information about the event can be found on the WPT website. Players interested in more details can find them here.
Wynn has the wealthiest customers
The decision to host the WPT Championships with a significantly large guaranteed prize pool aligns with recent customer data indicating that Wynn has the wealthiest clientele amongst all casino operators in Las Vegas.
The Street reports that Wynn customers have a household income of $108,780. This is significantly higher than the $94,352 household income of MGM Resorts customers, who come in a distant second.
It’s not surprising that Wynn is one of the world’s leading luxury casino brands. The data merely validates what we observe in the casinos and infer from the cost of visiting Wynn casinos.
Wynn Las Vegas had one of the highest average daily room rates in Las Vegas, at $432, according to its first-quarter earnings report.
To compare, the average daily room rate at MGM Resorts casinos on the Vegas Strip during the same period stood at $197.
The luxury Wynn exudes is supported by a wealthy clientele who appreciate the lavish offerings of the casino at every corner.
