Online poker players in Nevada could soon have more money available.
The launch of WSOP.com for players in Michigan marks the beginning of it all this week.
According to PlayMichigan, Michigan is planning to join the Multi-State Internet Gaming Compact with Nevada, New Jersey, and Delaware, meaning the player pool in the state should be significant.
“The Michigan Gaming Control Board has stated that they are waiting for other states, such as Delaware, Nevada, and New Jersey, to accept Michigan.”
The delay is due to the requirement that all states involved in the gaming compact must consent to any new states joining.
Current And Near Future Online Poker Pool Participants
Since 2018, Nevada, New Jersey, and Delaware have been sharing a player pool. With Michigan joining the gaming compact, there is likely to be an increase in the number of people visiting online poker rooms in Nevada. This might be the start of significant growth in Nevada’s online poker industry.
The World Series of Poker (WSOP) is already operational online in Pennsylvania. PlayPennsylvania reports that the Keystone State is also planning to join the multi-state compact with Nevada and other states.
The inclusion of poker players from Michigan and Pennsylvania in the online poker player pool could significantly benefit Nevada residents. Michigan boasts close to 10 million residents, and Pennsylvania’s population exceeds 12 million.
The liquidity in the online poker pool will increase due to a small percentage of residents from these two states playing online poker. This influx of additional players will result in more money being accessible for online poker players in Nevada.
Could There Be A New Online Poker Room Coming To Nevada?
Another method may exist for Nevada’s online poker to attract more players, games, and financial investment. At present, WSOP.com is Nevada’s sole active online poker room. However, this could potentially change in the not so distant future.
Speculation is rife that Nevada BetMGM might be preparing to introduce online poker in Nevada. An unverified report suggested that there’s a job vacancy at BetMGM in Nevada for an individual with poker marketing experience.
However, upon checking, while there are many jobs available at BetMGM in Nevada, none are specifically for online poker at the present time.
BetMGM has not yet responded to PlayNevada’s request for more information.
