Hard Rock Reveals Plans For Mirage Include 800-Suite Guitar Tower

Nearly a year ago, MGM Resorts declared the sale of the Mirage to Hard Rock International. This week, representatives from Hard Rock sought regulatory approval from the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB).

The Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) has endorsed Hard Rock International to assume operations of the Mirage from MGM Resorts. The company is set to appear before the Nevada Gaming Commission (NGC) on December 22 for final approval. The transaction between Hard Rock and MGM is expected to conclude shortly after.

At the almost four-hour long NGCB meeting, information about Hard Rock International and its future plans for the Mirage were shared by Jim Allen, the company’s chairman and CEO.

The presentation provided insights into Hard Rock’s transformation plans for the Mirage. Although Allen did not reveal a specific schedule for the project, he did provide some approximate timelines.

Rough timeline for Mirage Las Vegas transformation

Hard Rock has no intentions of shutting down the Mirage during construction, but Allen indicates that this decision could be altered if needed.

Allen states that the company aims to complete all architectural sketches by summer 2025. Following the completion of the construction concepts, Hard Rock will begin accepting construction bids.

The bidding process is expected to last between two to three months prior to the commencement of construction. This tentative schedule suggests that structural modifications at the Mirage may not kick off until the end of 2025 or the beginning of 2025.

The construction is expected to last from 26 to 30 months.

Hard Rock holds a three-year lease for the Mirage name. It’s anticipated that the Mirage will be rebranded as Hard Rock in 2025.

The name of the property might be altered by that time, but the construction could still proceed past that date. We are currently considering very tentative timelines.

Guests will notice one immediate change when Hard Rock assumes control of the Mirage. The Mirage will no longer use MGM Rewards as the old operator is leaving, instead, it will adopt Hard Rock’s Unity rewards program.

Hard Rock hotel plans

The Hard Rock Las Vegas will undergo significant changes that will greatly differentiate it from Mirage, beginning with the construction of a new hotel tower.

As stated earlier, the volcano in front of the Mirage on the Vegas Strip is being removed. In its place, the company intends to construct an all-suite guitar tower.

Allen states that the guitar tower is projected to have around 800 suites and will stand somewhere between 500-660 feet tall. However, the precise height is yet to be confirmed due to pending zoning approval.

This tower hotel will also feature an infinity pool with a view overlooking the Vegas Strip.

Plans indicate that the Mirage will undergo a complete overhaul, from top to bottom. Every room within the existing hotel tower at The Mirage is set to be fully renovated.

There are several possibilities regarding the timing and method of updating the existing hotel tower. One such option could be for the company to shut down individual segments of the three-wing hotel tower.

When all construction is completed, Hard Rock plans to have 3,640 hotel rooms, which is almost 600 rooms more than the property currently has.

The Villas at the Mirage will continue to exist. Hard Rock will modernize them to meet current guest expectations.

The Villas are among the most elite hotel rooms in Las Vegas, each boasting butler service, variable numbers of bedrooms, as well as their own pool and outdoor space.

The existing pool area at the Mirage will be demolished and reconstructed according to the Hard Rock’s design.

Hard Rock casino floor plan

Hard Rock intends to overhaul, enlarge, and rearrange the floor of the Mirage casino.

The existing casino at the Mirage measures 94,000 square feet. It will be expanded to a total size of 174,000 square feet.

Once construction is finished, Hard Rock will feature 2,000 slot machines. This is over twice the number of the 864 slots currently at the Mirage.

Once construction is completed, the number of table games at the property will increase by more than four times. Hard Rock will ultimately feature 212 table games, including blackjack, craps, and roulette. At present, The Mirage possesses 51 tables.

Hard Rock is set to open a modest casino on the Vegas Strip, featuring 200 slot machines and 12 table games. Additionally, a private gaming area will be situated near the Villas.

BetMGM will persist in running the sportsbook at the Mirage. However, Hard Rock is set to assume control of operations at an unspecified later date.

The number of restaurants at the property will increase from 18 to 21 with the new operator.

Hard Rock will be rockin’

The property will host a traditional entertainment venue. As expected, Hard Rock Live will be housed on the property, providing a platform for bands, comedians, and various other performers.

The company collaborates with various promoters, making it difficult to predict resident artists.

Hard Rock intends to construct a museum showcasing music memorabilia near Treasure Island, outside of its property. The museum will exhibit memorabilia from all music genres. The company acquired the memorabilia and the Hard Rock Las Vegas brand name in 2020.
