Nevada casinos open in February 2025

Last week, Las Vegas saw the opening of two new casinos. However, unlike those in the tourist-centric areas of Las Vegas, neither of these casinos offers full-service properties.

Ojos Locos Sports Cantina Y Casino began operations in North Las Vegas, approximately 20 minutes away from the Fremont Street Experience. Station Casinos’ Wildfire on Fremont also opened its doors closer to Boulder Highway, a mere 10-minute drive east of the Fremont Street Experience.

Las Vegas boasts a variety of casino types. Typically, the casinos located on the Vegas Strip or in downtown Las Vegas can be classified as casino hotels or casino resorts, based on the facilities they offer.

Hotels with casinos located outside the two most popular tourist areas are commonly referred to as “locals casinos.” These establishments offer a full range of services, including amenities such as restaurants, cinemas, and bowling alleys, enjoyed by Las Vegas locals on a regular basis. They are primarily aimed at residents or tourists seeking a unique or more affordable stay.

Finally, we have neighborhood casinos. These compact casinos, often found throughout Las Vegas, primarily feature gaming machines such as slots or electronic table games. Typically found in shopping plazas, they are generally comparable in size to retail outlets.

The two new casinos in Nevada that opened last week are categorized as neighborhood casinos.

Both of the casinos, primarily constructed for the locals residing in the surrounding neighborhoods, are relatively small. They both feature machine games, sportsbooks, and a handful of dining options.

Similar to other neighborhood casinos located off the strip, neither of these establishments offer live dealer table games or other forms of entertainment. However, this is often suitable for locals who are seeking a relaxed venue to gamble and enjoy a meal or a drink.

Wildfire On Fremont

Station Casinos runs almost twelve local casinos throughout Las Vegas, with several in Henderson, NV, boasting unique names or features.

  • Barley’s Casino and Brewery
  • The Green family
  • Casino & Lanes Wildfire

The Wildfire brand is operated by most neighborhood casinos of Station Casinos, located in various areas of Las Vegas.

  • Anthem
  • Boulder
  • Fremont
  • Mead Lake
  • Rancho
  • Sunset
  • View of the Valley

Wildfire on Fremont is situated away from the tourist-heavy areas of the street. The casino can be reached with a 30-minute walk or a quick 10-minute drive from the Fremont Street Experience, for context.

The Wildfire on Fremont boasts a 21,000-square-foot casino. This gaming facility is equipped with around 200 slot machines, bar-top gaming options, and a selection of electronic table games including roulette and craps. It also features a compact eight-seat sportsbook and several machines dedicated solely to keno.

For those in search of a meal, an IHOP and Tacos El Pastor are available. Wildfire on Fremont has a bar as its centerpiece, equipped with 16 65″ TVs that can be partially seen from most areas of the casino.

Station Casinos’ cashless gaming platform, STN Cash, is also accepted at the new casino.

Wildfire on Fremont, like other Station Casinos properties, is part of the Boarding Pass rewards program. The points accrued here can be redeemed at any other Station Casinos properties.

Ojos Locos Sports Cantina Y Casino

The Ojos Locos Sports Cantina Y Casino at Hotel El Jefe is quite a lengthy name. This hotel and casino have taken the place of the old Lucky Club in North Las Vegas. It’s marketed as the first U.S. hotel-casino specifically catering to the Latino community.

The Downtown Grand operators, Fifth Street Gaming, and the Ojos Locos Sports Cantina restaurant chain are collaborating on this project. Similar to Wildfire on Fremont, it’s a small neighborhood casino.

The casino spans 10,000 square feet and houses approximately 200 slot machines and electronic table games. Its main bar features video poker machines and can accommodate 35 people.

The property is equipped with 90 TVs for sports viewing. Wagers can be placed at the William Hill sportsbook. This Ojos Locos Sports Cantina restaurant location can accommodate up to 300 people.

The hotel consists of 90 rooms, some of which are currently under construction. A few newly renovated rooms are already available for use, and the entire renovation project is expected to be completed by year-end.

More Casinos Scheduled To Open This Year

Two traditional “Vegas-style” casinos are set to open by the end of the year.

The Fontainebleau, located on the north end of the Vegas Strip near Resorts World, Sahara, and Wynn, is set to open later this year as planned.

When it opens, the enormous 67-story blue building will boast 3,000 hotel rooms and suites. This luxury property will introduce the “Fontainebleau culture” of South Beach to Las Vegas.

Details about the property are largely confidential, but the property will feature several restaurants, a rooftop pool complex, day and night clubs, health and wellness facilities, as well as meeting rooms and convention space.

Currently under construction, Durango Casino is slated for a fourth-quarter opening. This new property of Station Casinos is situated in the southwest region of Las Vegas, just off the I-215 freeway.

The Durango Casino, spanning 83,000 square feet, will feature a comprehensive selection of machine games and live dealer table games. It will also include a cutting-edge sportsbook. The establishment will incorporate Station Casinos’ Boarding Pass rewards program.

The hotel is set to feature 200 rooms. The casino provides various dining options, including several full-service restaurants and a substantial food hall for individuals seeking a quick meal or the finest coffee in Las Vegas.
