[toc]Usually, online poker promotions grant cash or tournament tickets to winners. However, a new promotion is providing something that could potentially result in cash and tournament victories.
The new Tricks of the Trade promotion on the WSOP.com Nevada site is offering nine players a unique training experience with the Solve For Why Academy.
The poker training concept, Solve For Why, is developed by poker professional Matt Berkey.
How the WSOP NV promo works
The promotion started on Feb. 12 and will continue for the following nine weeks.
Every week, a winner will be awarded a spot in an exclusive one-day academy with Solve For Why in Las Vegas, scheduled for April 22.
The winning method varies each week.
Players who choose to participate in the promotion will be allocated to one of three leaderboard competitions. Each leaderboard will have two assigned weeks during which the player at the top of the leaderboard at the end of the period will win a seat at a seminar.
Here is an overview of the promotional schedule:
Week 1: Feb. 12-18 | All-Stars |
Week 2: Feb. 19-25 | Legends |
Week 3: Feb 26- March 4 | Icons |
Week 4: March 5-11 | Sweepstakes Week |
Week 5: March 12-18 | All-Stars |
Week 6: March 19-25 | Legends |
Week 7: March 26- April 1 | Icons |
Week 8: April 2- 8 | Sweepstakes Week |
Week 9: April 9-15 | Sweepstakes Week |
A winner will be determined based on a random drawing of those who have opted into the promotion during the three sweepstakes weeks.
The drawing occurs randomly, but players have the opportunity to gain extra entries for every 50 player points they accumulate within the promotional timeframe. Therefore, even if your leaderboard is not competing for a seat that particular week, there is still motivation to dedicate time.
Those participating in the promotion are also qualified to receive a special reload bonus.
More on Solve For Why
Berkey, the founder of Solve For Why, is a renowned player in both tournament and cash games, with nearly $3 million in career tournament winnings.
The professional based in Vegas has concentrated on providing an immersive poker training experience. This involves hosting about a dozen players for a weekend of poker training that concludes with a tournament. In this tournament, students play for real cash and prizes.
A tournament with prizes will also be held at the camp on April 22.
The prize for the winner includes admission to the $1,000 online bracelet event at this summer’s WSOP, a 20 percent rakeback on WSOP.com, and a personalized coaching session with a Solve For Why coach of their choosing.
Berkey explains what to expect from the camp
This is an unconventional promotion, but the expectation is that the chance to acquire elite poker training will attract Nevada’s online poker players.
Berkey elaborates, “In my opinion, WSOP.com has effectively recognized the steep learning curve in poker. The game’s mechanical simplicity enables players to grasp the basics quickly, but the subtle and complex details often lead to a plateau that most players struggle to overcome.”
He also believes that the live tournament at the end of training not only provides incentives to perform well, but also offers an opportunity typically reserved for those who reach the final table of major events.
“We hope that the lucky nine winners find the livestreamed mock game, complete with commentary, to be an invaluable study tool in their package.”
The promotion has already started, but there’s still ample time to participate. You can opt-in on the promotions page of the WSOP Nevada client and begin accumulating points for a chance to win one of the seats.
