The World Series of Poker (WSOP) may still be over two months away, but Nevada poker players can get some early practice in with Planet Hollywood Casino and WSOP.com.
Planet Hollywood Goliath Warm Up series starts March 24
The PHamous Poker Series is being hosted by Planet Hollywood from March 24-April 3, featuring 13 events. The series includes the Goliath Warm Up Series Main Event, which has a $1,500 + $150 Main Event and will commence on Thursday, March 30 and Friday, March 31. The tournament boasts a guaranteed prize pool of $529,850. Throughout the series, a total of $1 million in guarantees will be offered.
The event kicks off with a guaranteed $100,000 buy-in of $525 + $75, starting on Friday, March 24 and continuing on Saturday, March 25. It concludes with a High Roller tournament with a $3,700 + $300 buy-in on April 2 and April 3.
The 2017 Poker For Hope charity event, hosted by poker pro Antonio Esfandiari, is set to start at 10 a.m. PT on Saturday, April 1, offering $60,000 in cash and prizes. The event, which was won by actress Sara Rue last year, will donate all proceeds to Tia’s Hope, a charity dedicated to supporting children in hospital fighting severe illnesses.
WSOP.com running online poker satellites for Goliath Warm Up Main Event
Several live satellites are currently operating at Planet Hollywood for the Goliath Main Event. However, players also have the opportunity to secure their spot online. From March 24-29, online satellites are available on WSOP.com.
Every evening at 6 p.m. PT, the website will host a satellite with a buy-in fee of $30, which can lead to the Main Event with a buy-in of $1,650. Those who win will be given the option to select the starting day of the Main Event held at Planet Hollywood. If a player wins multiple seats, each additional seat will be compensated with $1,650 worth of WSOP.com online tournament tickets.
If $30 seems expensive, there are less expensive methods to enter Goliath. WSOP.com will provide daily super satellites into their nightly satellite events for a minimal cost of $3.
Planet Hollywood establishing itself as a tournament poker destination
Planet Hollywood’s latest poker series is The Goliath Warm Up. Known for hosting numerous poker tournaments, the Las Vegas poker room at Planet Hollywood is rapidly becoming a prime destination on the Strip.
In November 2014, Planet Hollywood held its first WSOP Circuit event. However, the WSOP series constitutes only a small portion of the tournament activities that unfold throughout the year.
The Goliath series on the property was a massive hit last summer, with several events exceeding the guaranteed prize pool. Despite competing with WSOP bracelet events, the series still flourished. The Main Event, with a buy-in of $1,650, consisted of six starting flights and guaranteed $2 million. With 2,332 entries, the tournament created a prize pool of over $3.5 million.
Building a poker audience on the bustling Las Vegas Strip is a challenge. However, Planet Hollywood is stepping in to continue where Caesars Palace stopped after reducing the size of its poker room. Collaborations with WSOP.com and attractive guarantees on tournaments are proving successful in bringing players back to Planet Hollywood all year round.
