[toc]Las Vegas is experiencing record-high temperatures, yet the buzz surrounding the new NHL team has managed to keep things cool. The Vegas Golden Knights, in their first-ever NHL draft, participated with much enthusiasm. Apart from the draft, the team also celebrated other developments at their new base in Nevada.

Another inhabitant is preparing to make Nevada its home – marijuana. The laws governing recreational marijuana will take effect from July 1. Despite being a few days away from these changes, the cohabitation of cannabis and Nevada’s casinos is already proving to be a challenge.

Hosting the world’s largest poker series is always a daunting task. Yet, the World Series of Poker (WSOP) consistently overcomes this challenge. Despite encountering a few issues, solutions are available to address them.

Vegas Golden Knights partner with D Las Vegas

The Vegas Golden Knights may play their games at the T-Mobile Arena, but they have officially declared The D on Fremont Street as their home. The partnership between the two groups was announced this week through a press conference.

Under the agreement, players will regularly visit the Downtown Las Vegas casino. Additionally, there will be viewing parties for each game and a yearly fan festival on location.

Excitement for the new team is already beginning to mount, despite the season’s start being a few months away. The team acquired three first-round picks during Friday’s draft. Cody Glass, a Canadian center, was their first pick. Glass, along with the other picks, will be joining goalie Marc-Andre Fleury, who was acquired through the expansion draft.

The season for the Golden Knights kicks off on October 6 with several away games. Their first home match is set for October 10, where they will be up against the Arizona Coyotes.

Casinos take hard line on marijuana

Marijuana is gaining ground in the Silver State, but the casinos are not on board. Even after the recreational marijuana laws become effective on July 1, smoking will still be prohibited on casino premises. The laws forbid public consumption. Additionally, casinos intend to enforce these regulations and monitor anyone smoking marijuana in their hotel rooms.

This stringent position may be even more challenging than some people thought. A recent article from the pro-cannabis periodical, Leafly, reported that Wynn Resorts prohibited Isaac Dietrich from their properties. Dietrich is the CEO of Mass Roots, a cannabis networking company, and he alleges his position in this company led to his banishment from Wynn properties.

An alleged email from a Wynn employee suggests that the Wynn was reluctant to accept Dietrich as a customer due to strict financial due diligence regulations to prevent money laundering. However, Wynn refused to confirm this story.

Casinos and marijuana are set to coexist, however, judging by the actions of the casino, the relationship will likely be strained at best.

The WSOP suggestion box

People complaining on social media is a staple of the WSOP, according to Nevada Online Casinos. They also point out that some of these complaints are valid and have proposed a few improvements for the world’s largest poker series to contemplate before the onset of 2018.
