At the start of November, the World Poker Tour (WPT) announced that its final event of Season XVI, the flagship WPT Tournament of Champions, would be held at the ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.

The WPT Tournament of Champions, with a buy-in of $15,000, is set to take place in May 2018. The event will be recorded and aired as part of the WPT’s Season XVI television programming on FOX Sports Regional Networks.

The WPT Tournament of Champions

Only Season XVI champions and existing members of the WPT Champions Club can participate in the tournament. All winners of this season are automatically enrolled in the WPT Tournament of Champions, and their airfare and accommodation are covered. The victor will be awarded the title of “champion of champions” by the World Poker Tour, in addition to several sponsored prizes.

Farid Yachou was the champion of the inaugural Season XIV WPT Tournament, earning $381,600 and a 2016 Corvette. The title for the end of Season XV went to Daniel Weinman, who won $381,500 and a 2018 Audi S5 Coupe.

The World Poker Tour returns to ARIA

ARIA Resort & Casino boasts an impressive array of slot machines and table games, hosts one of the city’s most popular poker rooms, and features a race and sports book.

The WPT 500 event was previously hosted at the property owned by MGM Resorts International.

Angelica Hael, the Vice President of Global Tour Management for the World Poker Tour (WPT), announced in a press release that the WPT is excited to elevate their relationship with ARIA Resort & Casino as they host the prestigious WPT Tournament of Champions for the fifth time in Season XVI.

Over the past four seasons, ARIA and WPT have amassed over 16,000 tournament entries and distributed more than $8.1 million in prize money during our combined events. We are eager to enhance this success with a top-tier poker festival at ARIA Resort & Casino, culminating in the season’s final WPT Tournament of Champions.

The decision to shift the season finale to Las Vegas symbolizes a homecoming for the tour, according to WPT CEO Adam Pliska.

The World Poker Tour (WPT) is privileged to announce ARIA Resort & Casino as the host for the Season XVI WPT Tournament of Champions. This also marks the WPT’s return to Las Vegas, the global epicenter of poker and the birthplace of the WPT. The current season of the WPT has been a monumental one; we have awarded our one-billionth prize dollar and expanded our reach with events in Beijing, India, and South America. It is our honor to culminate this remarkable season with the esteemed WPT Tournament of Champions at the exceptional ARIA Resort & Casino.

One more WPT Main Tour stop

The festival for the Season XVI WPT Tournament of Champions will also feature the final WPT Main Tour event of the season. This provides players with a final opportunity to enter the WPT Tournament of Champions.

Members can gain entry into that and other tour stops through ClubWPT.com, an online poker site that operates on a subscription basis. Players on the site compete for over $100,000 in cash and prizes every month, including seats at WPT events.

Since 2002, the WPT has been operating and its tour has been broadcasted in over 150 countries and territories worldwide.
