The Nevada Gaming Commission approved Legends Bay Casino in Sparks, NV, operated by Olympia Gaming, on Thursday. The casino is set to open later this summer as per schedule.
The development of Legends Bay Casino began in 2008 but was halted due to the last significant recession. Over the past two decades, the plans for the property have undergone changes.
This endorsement marks a significant landmark for the region. Legends Bay Casino will stand as the first freshly constructed casino in northern Nevada in over two decades, further illustrating the flourishing and expanding nature of Nevada’s gambling scene.
The Silver Legacy, located in downtown Reno, was the area’s last brand new casino, opening its doors in 1995.
Although the casino’s official opening date is not yet fixed, it seems that Olympia Gaming is aiming for an opening in August.
Not a Las Vegas-style casino
Compared to the latest Nevada property constructed from scratch, this will be a more modest casino. Olympia Gaming isn’t aiming to establish a casino in the style of Las Vegas.
To begin with, the Legends Bay Casino that is being constructed at The Outlets At Legend shopping center will not include a hotel opening.
The casino will provide 660 slot machines, 10 table games, and live keno. As announced earlier, the Circa Sports site in northern Nevada will be part of Legends Bay Casino.
The Legends Bay Casino will be a venue spanning 80,000 square feet in total.
To compare, the last Nevada casino that was built from scratch was Resorts World Las Vegas. The establishment boasts a gaming floor of 117,000 square feet, housing 1,400 slot machines, 117 table games, and 30 poker tables.
Legends Bay Casino will offer a variety of dining options, including a Food Truck Hall. This unique food hall concept will serve as a 5,000-square-foot venue for dining and entertainment.
The food hall is set to feature a range of fast-food outlets providing meals from retro, refurbished trucks. Pizza Genius, for instance, will be serving food out of a farm truck from the 1940s. Additionally, Loco Bueno will be dishing up meals from a 1969 Chevy P30 step van.
Duke’s Steakhouse and Craft 55, which currently operate at Casino Fandango, are set to open new branches at Legends Bay. In addition, LB Grill will serve as an all-day cafe, thus complementing the dining choices.
Olympia Gaming, which also runs Casino Fandango in Carson City, NV, doesn’t seem likely to integrate the rewards programs of the two establishments. Prospective visitors can sign up in advance for the Legends Bay Rewards program at this location.
Major hiring events for the new Sparks casino
Should Legends Bay Casino aim to commence operations by the end of August, Olympia Gaming will need to expedite their hiring process significantly. Court Cardinal, the regional president of Olympia Gaming and operator of Legends Bay Casino, expressed his enthusiasm regarding this matter after being given the green light to proceed.
“We’re excited to not only create 300 new rewarding job opportunities for the community but also to usher in advanced gaming, dining, and entertainment experiences to the Reno-Sparks area. We invite individuals seeking an excellent new job opportunity to take the initiative and apply online at legendsbaycasino.com to become a part of our team.”
Starting from Jul. 13 through Aug. 3, Legends Bay Casino is set to hold several in-person hiring events at the adjacent Hampton Inn & Suites. These job fairs will be conducted on a weekly basis.
Olympia Gaming intends to proceed rapidly, with potential immediate employment opportunities. The company might also provide a $500 signing bonus.
Legends Bay Casino will also provide assured weekly payment for training. The company will compensate for up to 40 hours per week during the two-week training period.
