Golden Nugget Shutters Nevada Sportsbook App

Golden Nugget Closes Sports Betting App

The mobile sports betting app from The Golden Nugget Nevada is no longer functional. This week, the company ceased accepting bets on its app.

Mobile sportsbook accounts at Golden Nugget are still operational. If app users wish to withdraw funds, they can visit a physical Golden Nugget sportsbook. However, if they can’t reach a retail location for withdrawal, they can opt to keep the funds in their accounts.

Golden Nugget’s retail sportsbooks in Nevada are still operational. The sportsbook in their downtown Las Vegas casino is open every day from 9 am to 9 pm. The sportsbook in Laughlin opens at 11 am on weekdays and 8 am on weekends. It closes at 6:30 pm during the week, and at 7 pm on weekends.

Despite the mobile accounts remaining active, the app is not designed to accept bets. All wagering through Golden Nugget must be done physically at a retail sportsbook in either Las Vegas or Laughlin.

Two options for pending wagers

There are two ways to manage pending bets in a Golden Nugget mobile sportsbook account.

A user of a mobile app can go to a Golden Nugget retail sportsbook to print paper tickets for any unsettled bets, and if their bet wins, they can cash in their ticket. If they don’t print a ticket, the casino will send a check for any unsettled bets. However, it will be approximately 60 days after the resolution of the final mobile bet before Golden Nugget dispatches the check.

If any unresolved bets are left in a mobile account, the sportsbook will process and grade them as usual.

No new online sports betting solution (yet)

In an email sent to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the Golden Nugget stated that the company anticipates offering a new mobile solution in the future.

Golden Nugget provided no further details. It is not yet known when a new app will be released.

Golden Nugget benefits from time. Nevada sees a slow period in sports betting during the summer, given the absence of both professional and college football games.

In just over a month, the NBA and NHL playoffs will conclude. During the summer months, most sports betting activity focuses on MLB games and football futures.

A glance at the forthcoming agenda for the Nevada Gaming Control Board for May reveals no potential new operators for sports betting apps.

Could DraftKings enter the Nevada market?

Golden Nugget has not disclosed any details regarding a new app or sportsbook partner. Nevertheless, DraftKings purchased Golden Nugget Online Gaming (GNOG) in 2021 for a sum of $1.56 billion.

GNOG was a distinct company from the retail casino operations of Golden Nugget.

The agreement also provides DraftKings with access to 5.5 million members of the rewards club owned by Golden Nugget and Landry’s. Tilman Fertitta, who owns both Golden Nugget and Landry’s restaurants, is also part of this deal.

This deal includes an additional component. Upon the deal’s announcement, Golden Nugget intended to rebrand its retail sports betting venues as DraftKings Sportsbooks in due course. However, there is no set timeline for this transition.

This agreement currently excludes online sports betting. However, the potential collaboration between the two companies might incorporate a mobile sports betting element in the future.

The requirement for in-person registration in Nevada is a key reason why DraftKings does not operate in the Silver State. Similarly, this is also why FanDuel appears to be in no hurry to introduce their mobile sportsbook app to Nevada.

Boyd Gaming launched a sportsbook under the FanDuel brand at Fremont Hotel and Casino last year. They continue to supply odds for the FanDuel-branded sportsbook.

Neither Golden Nugget nor DraftKings have disclosed their future plans. However, one could infer that they might roll out a similar strategy in time for the upcoming football season.

Regardless of the situation, Golden Nugget is expected to launch a new app before the upcoming football season.
