ESPN’s coverage of the World Series of Poker Main Event begins this Sunday. Poker on ESPN has been taking a little break since the Big One for One Drop coverage finished airing on August 12th.
The hiatus has left a gap in televised poker drama, especially after our attention was captured by several key intense moments during the event with the million dollar buy-in, such as the worst beat in history and the media’s complete overreaction to a champion declining an interview. Now we’ll all get to resume heightening our anticipation for the championship, showing the selection of this year’s November Nine and all the exciting moments involved.
Every Sunday night television’s biggest sports network will be giving us two hours of the buildup to the Main Event championship, with the usual commentary by Norman Chad and Lon McEachern, leading up to the live broadcast of the final table on Monday, November 10th and Tuesday November 11th.
The coverage promises to entertain, allowing viewers to watch all the dramatic steps unfold, such as the triumphant return of one of last year’s nine or how Brazil managed to get represented for the first time. And we can expect a very heated final conflict, the starting chip counts have a very narrow range and the prize for first place has grown to an even ten million dollars.
Each week in this space we’ll be analyzing and picking apart some highlights from ESPN’s footage, in between listening to my Brazilian neighbors telling me why Politano is the greatest thing ever and constantly double-checking the proper spelling of Pappaconstantinou.
