MGM Launches Real Money Online Casino Tournaments In Nevada

[toc]Residents of the Silver State have even more ways to get in on the casino action on their computers or phones.

The MGM-owned easyPlay client allows those in the state of Nevada to participate in casino-style slots, video poker and bingo tournaments.

Back in July MGM allowed anyone on site at any of their nine NV properties to play in these real money events on their mobile device. Now anyone within state lines can participate.

easyPlay is currently offering a deposit match up to $500.

How does easyPlay work?

Unlike table games in a casino, the offerings on easyPlay do not pit a player against the house. Instead, all contests are tournament-style where players compete against one another like they would in a real-life slots tournament.

Currently the client offers four types of tournaments. One is video poker, two are slots-based and one is online bingo. Buy-ins are as low as $5 and can run up to $50.

With the in-casino requirement in place for the past five months, the prize pools have initially been relatively small. Presumably expanding the client base will lead to bigger prize pools and payouts.

These casino tournaments are different than a Nevada online poker tournament. In poker, all the players take part at the same time.

For easyPlay casino games, the tournament duration is predetermined by a window of time. These typically 24-hour periods are open for anyone to try and rack up a high score after a set number of spins. The highest scores earn payouts as they would in a poker tournament.

The tournaments pay out a set number of places based on how many entries there are in a given tournament.

easyPlay follows in sports wagering’s footsteps

Betting on sports through your mobile device is commonplace in Nevada now. However, back when the concept first launched Cantor Gaming’s app on the Venetian could only be used on property.

Since then, Cantor expanded the offering statewide and most every other brick and mortar sports book has followed suit.

Cantor also began offering casino games available to play on mobile for those on site at Venetian and Palazzo in 2010. Those games, which feature real money wagering, are still being offered but only to those on Cantor-affiliated casino properties.

Are Nevada online casino games on the horizon?

The Garden State currently offers a complete slate of online real money NJ casino games.

Nevada regulations are currently limited to online poker. There has been no legislation presented to expand to online casino games.

easyPlay marks the first step in taking casino games off property like sports books did with their mobile wagering apps.
