[toc]Typically online poker promos offer cash or tournament tickets to winners. A new promotion is offering something that could lead to cash and tournament success.
The WSOP.com Nevada site’s new Tricks of the Trade promotion is giving nine players a one-of-a-kind training experience with Solve For Why Academy.
Solve For Why is a poker training concept from poker pro Matt Berkey.
How the WSOP NV promo works
The promotion began on Feb. 12 and continues for the next nine weeks.
Each week a winner will earn a seat into an exclusive one-day academy with Solve For Why in Las Vegas on April 22.
Each week, the way to win varies.
Players who opt-in to to the promo will be assigned to one of three leaderboard contests. Each leaderboard will have two designated weeks where the top spot on the leaderboard at the end of the time period will earn a seminar seat.
Here is a look at the promotion schedule:
Week 1: Feb. 12-18 | All-Stars |
Week 2: Feb. 19-25 | Legends |
Week 3: Feb 26- March 4 | Icons |
Week 4: March 5-11 | Sweepstakes Week |
Week 5: March 12-18 | All-Stars |
Week 6: March 19-25 | Legends |
Week 7: March 26- April 1 | Icons |
Week 8: April 2- 8 | Sweepstakes Week |
Week 9: April 9-15 | Sweepstakes Week |
The three sweepstakes weeks will determine a winner based on a random drawing of those who have opted in to the promotion.
The drawing is random, but players can earn additional entries for every 50 player points they earn during the promotional period. This means even if your leaderboard is not playing for a seat that week, there is still incentive to put in hours.
Participants in the promotion are also eligible for a special reload bonus.
More on Solve For Why
Solve For Why founder Berkey is a noted tournament and cash game player with almost $3 million in career tournament earnings.
The Vegas-based pro has been focusing on offering an immersive poker training experience hosting a dozen or so players for a weekend of poker training which culminates with a tournament in which students play for real cash and prizes.
For the April 22 camp, there will also be a tournament with prizes.
The winner will receive entry into the $1,000 online bracelet event at this summer’s WSOP, 20 percent rakeback on WSOP.com, and a one-on-one coaching session with the Solve For Why coach of the winner’s choice.
Berkey explains what to expect from the camp
The promotion is an unusual one, but the hope is the opportunity to obtain elite poker training will appeal to the Nevada online grinders.
“I think WSOP.com has done a great job acknowledging that the learning curve in poker is incredibly sharp. The mechanical simplicity of the game allows for players to learn quickly, but the intricacies are very nuanced and complex which leads most to struggle through an inevitable plateau,” Berkey explains.
He also thinks the live tournament at the end of training offers not only incentives to play well, but an opportunity which is normally only available to those who make the final table of major events.
“We hope the livestreamed mock game, complete with commentary, proves to be an invaluable study tool for the lucky nine who win a package.”
The promotion is already underway, but there is still plenty of time to opt-in on the promotions page of the WSOP Nevada client and start earning points in an effort to win one of the seats.
