[toc]A Southern California slots player hit an $11.8 million Megabucks jackpot at the Fremont Hotel & Casino in Downtown Las Vegas, Nevada last week.

Rodolfo T. won the massive jackpot around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 8 after making a $3 max-bet wager on the International Game Technology Megabucks 3X4X5X Double Times Pay slot machine.

The California man posed for a photo with Fremont Vice President and General Manager Jim Sullivan and Slot Director Salinda Conklin, but would not divulge any more than the area where he was from, his first name, and last initial.

Fremont’s biggest jackpot ever

In a press release, Sullivan stated:

“The Fremont has awarded many thousands of jackpots throughout its 60-year history in Las Vegas, but none quite like this. We’re incredibly excited to be a part of this amazing jackpot furthering Fremont’s longstanding reputation as a place where players win.”

This marked the first time IGT’s Megabucks Nevada jackpot has been hit in 2017. However, it was hit twice in 2016.

In August 2016, an Oahu, Hawaii resident hit a $10.7 million jackpot on the IGT Megabucks Wynn Wheel slot machine at Wynn Las Vegas. It was a $3 max-bet on the penny slot custom-built for Wynn Las Vegas that triggered the jackpot.

The Megabucks Nevada jackpot was also hit by 64-year-old Northern Nevada gold miner Efren Aguirre in March 2016.

Aguirre hit a $12.5 million jackpot at the Gold Dust West Casino in Elko, NV.

The largest Megabucks jackpot ever hit was $39.7 million in 2003 at the Excalibur in Las Vegas.

World’s first wide-area progressive jackpot system

IGT’s Megabucks Nevada jackpot is actually the world’s first wide-area progressive jackpot system. It has been around since 1986. The Megabucks Nevada jackpot resets at $10 million after it is hit.

When it originally opened in 1956, the property was the tallest building in the state. Iconic Las Vegas entertainer Wayne Newton got his start there. Several films and TV shows have also used the Fremont’s easily-identifiable neon outdoor signage.
