A facelift is being given to one of the original resort casinos on the Las Vegas Strip.
On Thursday, Caesars Entertainment Corporation declared that they will kick off a $90 million renovation of 1,270 rooms at the iconic Flamingo Las Vegas this coming August.
Caesars Entertainment asserts that the renovation plan is part of its ongoing pledge to offer guests the finest possible experience.
Flamingo intends to reveal the new rooms in November 2017, with the entire renovation project expected to be fully completed by the second quarter of 2018.
Bugsy Siegel’s Flamingo Hotel & Casino
The Flamingo Las Vegas, originally known as The Flamingo Hotel & Casino, was established in 1946 by mobster Bugsy Siegel. The property, constructed approximately four miles from Downtown Las Vegas, was among the first casino and hotel properties on what later became the Las Vegas Strip.
The property experienced various renovations, remodels, and changes in ownership. In 1972, the Hilton Corporation purchased the resort and by 1974, it was rebranded as the Flamingo Hilton.
In 1993, the last structure associated with the original Flamingo Hotel & Casino property was torn down. Five years later, in 1998, the property was incorporated into Hilton’s new Park Place Entertainment company. This company eventually transformed into Caesars Entertainment. By the year 2000, the property was officially renamed as the Flamingo Las Vegas.
Harrah’s Entertainment purchased Caesars Entertainment in 2005, but renamed itself as Caesars Entertainment Corporation in 2010.
The oldest resort on the Las Vegas Strip
The Flamingo Las Vegas has expanded to provide over 70,000 square feet of gaming space. The property boasts four hotel towers containing over 3,600 rooms. Emphasizing an Art Deco design style, the Flamingo offers numerous resort amenities. These include a 15-acre pool and wildlife habitat, complete with waterfalls, diverse vegetation, and tropical wildlife, in addition to three pool areas and sprawling outdoor gardens.
The Flamingo Las Vegas, which celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2016, is the oldest resort still in operation on the Las Vegas Strip.
The latest renovation plans for new rooms, as announced in a press release, highlight retro-chic designs that pay homage to the Flamingo’s vibrant history. Forrest Perkins is spearheading the redesign, with a commitment to preserving the property’s intrinsic character and charm.
Staying true to the property’s past
Bob Morse, Caesars Entertainment President of Hospitality, stated in the release, “Flamingo Las Vegas is a historic resort with 70 years of unparalleled experiences and rich history. The refurbished rooms honor the property’s past and at the same time, provide it with a contemporary new look.”
In 2016, Caesars Entertainment undertook the renovation of over 4,800 rooms across four of its casinos in Nevada. These included Caesars Palace, Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, Paris Las Vegas, and Harrah’s Las Vegas.
By the end of the year, the company will have renovated over 50 percent of their hotel rooms in Las Vegas property since 2014.
The Margaritaville Casino at the Flamingo
The Flamingo boasts a private poker room, sports book, and an extensive range of table games and slots. It also houses the Margaritaville Casino, a 15,000 square-foot casino and bar that opened its doors in 2011.
The Margaritaville Casino is a constituent of Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville restaurant company and exemplifies the island vibe synonymous with a Margaritaville restaurant. The facility encompasses 22 table games, 220 slot machines, and the 5 O’Clock Somewhere Bar.
