This winter, the World Poker Tour (WPT) World Championship is set to occur at Wynn Las Vegas. Scheduled for Dec. 1-20, the event will feature the first ever $15 million guaranteed prize pool in poker history.
This will set a record as the biggest individual live tournament guarantee in poker history. Following Wynn’s Summer Classic, which is currently underway, will be the WPT event.
WPT’s CEO, Adam Pliska, states:
“This marks one of the most daring ventures the World Poker Tour has embarked on in our two-decade history. We foresee this festival being eagerly awaited and are thrilled to collaborate with Wynn Las Vegas to actualize this concept.”
The main highlight of the multi-tournament poker festival is the championship tournament with a buy-in of $10,400. The event will conclude with the final game being broadcasted on television.
At least 200 qualifiers are expected to attend the WPT World Championship from playing online poker at ClubWPT. Various live satellites will allow hundreds more to qualify.
WPT World Championship events at Wynn Las Vegas
The WPT World Championship will comprise over twelve tournaments. Players will particularly notice three standout events:
- The Prime Championship
- Wynn Mystery Bounty
- WPT World Championship
Says Ryan Beauregard, Executive Director of Poker Operations at Wynn Las Vegas:
At Wynn Las Vegas, we deliver the largest and most exceptional poker experiences to our guests, complete with world-class service and unparalleled amenities. In collaboration with WPT, we have designed a unique festival that is an essential event for both our loyal and prospective players.
The 2022 WPT Prime Championship is scheduled for Dec. 8-12. The final table for this championship will be held at the Esports Arena Las Vegas at Luxor, a venue known for being more TV-friendly than the poker spaces at Wynn.
This event at the poker festival, with a $1,100 buy-in, could be one of the most popular and moderately priced. A guaranteed prize pool of $2 million is on offer, and there’s no limit on re-entries per flight.
The WPT World Championship has scheduled three “Day 1” flights on December 12, 13, and 14. A “freezeout” format will be part of each of these starting days.
Players are allowed a single entry per flight in this event, and the champion will be crowned on Dec. 20.
The WPT Championship at Wynn will conclude on Dec. 16-19 featuring the $2 million guaranteed Wynn Mystery Bounty. In this competition, players can potentially win cash prizes up to $100,000 by eliminating other competitors. Moreover, unlimited re-entries per flight will be allowed.
More information about the event can be found on the WPT website. Players interested can obtain further details here.
Wynn has the wealthiest customers
The hosting of the WPT Championships with a substantial guaranteed prize pool aligns with recent customer data indicating that Wynn boasts the wealthiest clientele among all Las Vegas casino operators.
The Street reports that Wynn customers have a household income of $108,780. This is significantly higher than the household income of MGM Resorts customers, which stands at $94,352.
The fact that Wynn is one of the world’s largest luxury casino brands comes as no surprise. The data merely validates what we observe in their casinos and what we infer from the cost of visiting Wynn casinos.
The first-quarter earnings report reveals that Wynn Las Vegas had an average daily room rate of $432, one of the highest in Las Vegas.
To compare, during the same period, the average daily room rate at the MGM Resorts casinos on the Vegas Strip was $197.
Wynn radiates luxury and attracts a rich clientele who can afford the lavishness the casino provides at each corner.
