MGM Resorts International has introduced a mobile gaming platform known as easyPLAY Mobile tournaments.
This is the inaugural real money online and mobile slot game tournament provided by a regulated US casino. These real money tournaments are accessible to any US visitor at any of the nine MGM Resorts International properties in Las Vegas.
The basics on MGM’s easyPLAY
To start, visit easyplay.vegas and register for an account. You can sign up from any location, however, participating in tournaments is only possible at a property owned by MGM Resorts International.
The registration process only takes a few minutes. After signing up, you can participate in tournaments, regardless of whether you are on an MGM Resorts International property.
Every submission is viewed as a ticket, payable by credit card or PayPal. The ongoing competition charges range from $1 to $5.
Contest payouts will differ based on the specific tournament and the number of participants. As the player base expands, we may introduce tournaments with larger stakes.
Registration bonuses are not permanent. Currently, there is a ‘buy one, get one free’ entry offer for a summer-long tournament, but this may not be available for all tournaments.
M Life Rewards, the loyalty club of MGM Resorts International, may also offer promotions. When the easyPLAY tournaments began, loyalty club members received an email offering a $5 bonus entry to the summer-long tournament.
To participate, you must be a resident of the United States and at least 21 years old.
Participating in slot tournaments
To participate in easyPLAY tournaments, you must be located at one of the MGM Resorts International properties.
- Aria
- Bellagio,
- Excalibur
- Luxor
- Bay of Mandalay
- Grand MGM
- The Mirage
- Carlo Monte
- New York, New York.
Delano and Vdara do not have gaming facilities, hence guests would need to go to Mandalay Bay or Aria respectively if they wish to take part in any tournaments. Also, even though Circus Circus is owned by MGM, participation in gaming is not allowed there.
Currently, you are required to connect online through the wifi provided by any participating hotels. This wifi connection policy may be subject to change in the future. As wifi speeds differ at each location, it might be advisable to conduct a speedtest to ensure your gameplay isn’t adversely impacted.
Participation in easyPLAY tournaments does not require you to have your own device. You have the option to use your laptop or mobile devices at various locations such as the pool, bars, restaurants, or even your room. Additionally, another alternative is also available.
You are free to participate using any of the many interactive tables found across MGM properties.
Tournaments are played in a way that is similar to traditional casino slot machine tournaments. Rather than being timed by a clock, these tournaments usually involve 25 spins.
The winnings from each of your spins are totaled and compared against other participants. Prizes are distributed based on the tournament’s structure.
The winners of the tournament will receive a notification via email at its conclusion.
Cashing out at easyPLAY
Winners of the tournament can collect their winnings at a cashier cage in an MGM casino.
To claim your winnings, you need to meet two conditions. Firstly, present a government-issued ID such as a driver’s license. Secondly, supply the email address which was used to register the winning account.
The IRS stipulates that any prize winners who have netted $600 or more after entry fees from easyPLAY must receive an annual 1099-MISC. This regulation differs from the taxation on traditional casino games, where video poker and slot machine winnings are taxed only if they exceed $1,200.
The games at easyPLAY
You currently have the opportunity to participate in real money slot machine and bingo tournaments.
Jester Poker, the video poker game, functions more like a slot machine compared to a traditional video poker game. In this game, you’re only dealt cards that result in a win or loss. Unlike conventional video poker, there’s no option to hold or discard any cards.
Triple 7 Sapphire and 25 Diamonds function like conventional slot machines. Empire Action, on the other hand, resembles and operates as a multi-card bingo game.
You can also engage in free games to practice or familiarize yourself with each game if you’re not prepared to stake money for competing for cash or prizes.
These games are designed to be played amid other activities. The absence of a time limit lets you indulge in a few rounds each time you require a pause from eating, drinking, or engaging in a conversation.
Although you can sit and play games in your hotel room, you’ll likely find them more enjoyable as a secondary attraction.
In the future, new games will be introduced. MGM is currently investigating the integration of games like video poker and blackjack, as well as a game that merges the gambling aspect of Pachinko with a social game similar to Candy Crush Saga.
MGM’s online gambling and technology
The mobile gaming tech company, oneLIVE inc, developed the easyPLAY tournaments.
This isn’t an application for your computer or mobile device. The tournaments are conducted through easyplay.vegas (similar to .com if you’re unfamiliar with the .vegas extension). Although there may be an app in the future, it’s currently not a priority for oneLIVE or MGM.
In Nevada, the only other online and mobile games available are poker and sports betting. Numerous casinos provide mobile sports betting through smartphone applications. Additionally, there are two online poker networks in the state.
