The opening of Resorts World Las Vegas is officially scheduled for June 24, 2021. With a cost of $4.3 billion, this integrated resort is the first to be built from the ground up on the Las Vegas Strip in over a decade. The Cosmopolitan, which opened its doors on December 15, 2010, was the last entirely new casino to be established on the Vegas Strip.
Resorts World ears in the making
The initial groundbreaking for Resorts World happened on May 5, 2015. The project experienced delays but saw significant acceleration in construction in 2019. Despite the coronavirus pandemic, the work proceeded undeterred as construction is deemed an essential business in Nevada.
This isn’t just any ordinary casino-hotel project. Resorts World is a megaresort, the kind that Las Vegas became renowned for constructing in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
“After years of meticulous planning and building this monumental property in collaboration with some of the industry’s most innovative partners, Resorts World Las Vegas is set to revolutionize the hospitality standard in Las Vegas. It will offer unparalleled dining and entertainment options, a broader variety of hotel accommodations than any other place on the Strip, and the most advanced technology in the city,” stated Scott Sibella, President of Resorts World Las Vegas.
He stated, “As we near our opening in June, we are filled with both gratitude and anticipation. We hope to contribute to Las Vegas’s revival following a year that has been exceptionally challenging for both the destination and the wider hospitality sector.”
By no means is Resorts World a minor casino-hotel project. Over 3,000 construction workers were present every day at the 88-acre site.
Resorts World harks back to the era of mega-resorts initiated by The Mirage and others several decades ago. The concept for this property first emerged approximately 15 years ago.
Stardust to Echelon Place to Resorts World
The casino resort, which is set to open soon, is located at the northern end of the Vegas Strip, a spot previously occupied by the Stardust. The idea for Resorts World was already in motion before the Stardust was demolished in 2007.
The project formerly called Echelon Place was planned to feature several hotels comprising a total of 5,000 rooms. Boyd Gaming, the landowner, was forced to stop the construction amid the severe recession in 2008. Today, Resorts World is reutilizing some of the ironwork initially constructed for Echelon Place.
Although the property has new owners and a new concept, some of the features Boyd planned for Echelon Place will still be incorporated in Resorts World.
Inside Resorts World
Since its introduction in 2015, the plans for Resorts World have significantly evolved. Although the project has been reduced in scale, it remains colossal. Over $4 billion was spent on the construction of Resorts World.
The hotel boasts several Hilton brands and offers 3,500 rooms. Hilton Honors rewards members are indeed allowed to redeem their points for hotel rooms.
Resorts World will feature over 40 dining venues and eight bars and lounges. A theater with a capacity for 5,000 spectators will host resident artists such as Celine Dion, Carrie Underwood, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan. Additionally, Tiesto and Zedd will be the resident DJ’s at Zouk Nightclub and AYU Dayclub.
The pool complex, spanning 5.5 acres, is set to be Las Vegas’ largest rooftop pool. It will provide seven distinctive pool experiences, including the Vegas Strip’s only infinity-edge pool.
Visitors will likely first notice something outside of the casino. An operational 100,000-square-foot LED screen that covers the West Tower and can be seen from miles away.
Resorts World Casino
The casino floor at Resorts World, spanning 117,000 square feet, may not be the largest on the Vegas Strip, but it certainly isn’t small. To put it into perspective, it’s slightly smaller than the one at Caesars Palace. Resorts World regards their casino floor as a next-gen space, equipped with technology that is not found in the majority of Las Vegas casinos.
Resorts World, unlike the recent openings at Circa and Virgin, will feature a poker room. It will also have slot machines, table games, and high-limit areas, along with a sportsbook. However, the sportsbook at Resorts World will not be the traditional kind found at many other Las Vegas casinos.
Dawg House Saloon & Sportsbook is a sports bar and restaurant modeled after one in Nashville. Besides broadcasting sports games, Dawg House offers live music and dancing, an array of draft beers, innovative cocktails, and traditional American pub food with a Southern flair.
Although the saloon idea seems completely unique, it appears to be similar to what the BetMGM sportsbook provides at Park MGM.
