[toc]Nevada gaming revenues are on the rise.
In fact, numbers released by the Nevada Gaming Control Board on May 31, 2017 show statewide gaming revenues were up 1.19 percent in April 2017 over the same month last year. The total statewide gaming revenues recorded in April 2017 were $886,528,810 compared to $876,135,199 in April 2016.
Las Vegas sets the pace, as usual
Of course, Clark County continued to set the pace for gaming revenue in Nevada. The county recorded $763,200,286 in April 2017 gaming revenues. This is an increase of 1.37 percent over the $752,884,541 recorded in April 2016.
Inside Clark County, the Las Vegas Strip was once again the biggest gaming revenue generator. The strip recorded $475,375,212 in April 2017 gaming revenue. However, that number was down 3.25 percent from the $491,369,187 recorded in April 2016.
The Las Vegas Strip is generally considered to be the approximately four-mile stretch of hotels and casinos on Las Vegas Boulevard from the SLS Las Vegas to the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. The Strip is home to a number of massive casino resorts, including:
- MGM Grand Las Vegas Hotel & Casino
- ARIA Resort & Casino
- Bellagio Hotel & Casino
- Caesars Palace Las Vegas Hotel and Casino
- The Venetian Las Vegas
- Wynn Las Vegas
Downtown Vegas shows biggest growth
The Las Vegas Strip continued to post the largest revenue numbers, but the biggest revenue growth came from Downtown Las Vegas. According to the Nevada Gaming Control Board numbers, Downtown area casinos generated $52,295,316 in April 2017 gaming revenue. This represented a massive 21.89 percent jump from the $42,905,377 in gaming revenue recorded in Downtown Las Vegas in April 2016. In fact, Downtown Las Vegas posted the state’s highest percentage of gaming revenue growth in April.
Most would say Downtown Las Vegas is Las Vegas’ historic center. It includes a small central business district and a hotel and gaming area centered around Fremont Street and the Fremont Street Experience covered entertainment area. It is just North of the Las Vegas Strip and features a number of historic hotel and casino properties. This includes:
- The Golden Nugget
- Four Queens
- Binion’s
- The D Las Vegas
- Plaza
- Stratosphere Las Vegas
Year-to-date numbers climbing
Nevada’s fiscal year-to-date gaming revenues, recorded from the beginning of July 2016 until the end of April 2017 now stand at approximately $9.5 billion. That number is up a little over three percent from the $9.2 billion recorded in the same period last year.
The state of Nevada continues to be a major beneficiary of increased gaming revenues across the state. In fact, the state collected $44,245,090 in percentage fees in May 2017, based on taxable revenues generated in April 2017. This number was up 0.26 percent from the $44,128,685 collected in the same period last year.
