[toc]The Nevada casino industry had gaming revenue of $949 million during September, according to a financial report released this week by the state Gaming Control Board.

The amount was a 3.6 percent increase compared to the $916.5 million won in the same month last year.

It was also the best September for Nevada casinos since September 2013’s $958.8 million. September gaming win reached a high of $1.06 billion in 2007.

In the 12-month period prior to the end of September, the casinos won $11.2 billion. That was an increase of 1.4 percent compared to the same period a year before.

For the fiscal year (July 1, 2016 through Sept. 30, 2016), gaming win has increased 2.8 percent to $2.8 billion.

Games and tables

Total revenue from games and tables was $362.9 million for the month, an increase of 5.5 percent compared to the same month last year.

Here’s a brief breakdown of table game offerings:

  • Twenty-one: $106.9 million
  • Baccarat: $92.9 million
  • Roulette: $31.6 million
  • Craps: $28.2 million
  • Poker: $8.4 million

Nevada online poker revenue is included in the poker figure. The Silver State doesn’t release a breakdown between brick-and-mortar and online play because there aren’t enough operators (there are two – WSOP.com and Real Gaming).

Poker is the only form of online casino gambling that the state currently allows, but sports bets can be made via mobile devices.

There were 2,660 blackjack tables statewide in September, which was about four times as many as the next closest table game (poker with 606 tables).

Slot machines

Total slot win for the month was $586 million, up 2.4 percent year-over-year.

There were 145,300 slot machines statewide during September. The statewide win percentage was 6.6 percent.

Nevada sports betting

Nevada casinos won $41 million from sports betting during the month. That was a year-over-year increase of 15.2 percent.

The sports books won 9.3 percent of wagers, which means $440.9 million was bet in September.

Here’s a revenue breakdown by sport:

  • Football: $36.9 million
  • Baseball: $497,000
  • Basketball: -$733,000
  • Other: $302,000

About $4 million was won on parlay cards.

Las Vegas Strip performance

Casinos on or around the Las Vegas Strip won a combined $542.5 million. That was a solid 7.5-percent gain.

Those casinos won $281.4 million from games and tables and $261.2 million from slot machines. Sports betting, which is included in the former, gave Strip-area properties $19.2 million in revenue.

Clark County as a whole saw $808.8 million in gaming win for the month, up 3.6 percent year-over-year.

All counties with gaming had year-over-year gains.

According to research from the University of Nevada Las Vegas, the Strip is performing worse than the rest of the state as a whole over the past six months.

Through September, statewide gaming revenues were up 1.2 percent for the past six months. Strip gaming win was up just 0.4 percent during the same period.

The Strip “has more extreme variations in its monthly results, thanks to the volatility of baccarat,” according to UNLV.

Taxes collected by Nevada

The state collected $63.4 million in percentage fees based upon the taxable revenues generated in September 2016.

That was a 9.1-percent increase ($5.3 million) compared to the same period a year ago.
