William Hill Sportsbooks Continue Domination In Nevada Casinos

Written By Marc Meltzer on January 23, 2019

The Nevada Gaming Control Board recently suggested a number of recommendations for William Hill to run sportsbooks across Nevada. The international sportsbook operator received these recommendations on Jan. 9, which included approval to operate sportsbooks at several casinos in the state.

  • Aquarius (Laughlin)
  • Decatur Arizona Charlie’s (Las Vegas)
  • Boulder’s Arizona Charlie (Las Vegas)
  • Eldorado (Reno)
  • Jerry’s Nugget (Las Vegas)
  • Montbleau (Reno)
  • Stratosphere (Las Vegas)

William Hill runs over 100 sportsbooks across Nevada. The majority of the new sportsbooks on their list were anticipated. They inked a contract last year to manage sportsbooks for Golden Entertainment.

Golden Entertainment owns Aquarius, both Arizona Charlie’s, and the Stratosphere. Besides casino sportsbooks, William Hill also operates sports betting kiosks in around 80 Golden Entertainment pubs and taverns across the state, including all locations of PT’s Pub.

William Hill has inked a deal to manage sportsbooks for Eldorado Resorts across the United States. Both the Montbleau and Eldorado in Reno are part of the Eldorado Resorts casinos. Circus Circus, Silverado, and Tropicana Laughlin casinos, which are already under the operation of William Hill for their sportsbooks, are also owned by Eldorado Resorts.

Jerry’s Nugget is the unexpected casino among the many approvals.

William Hill is taking over independent sportsbooks

When William Hill assumes sportsbook operations at Jerry’s Nugget in Las Vegas, the number of independent sportsbook operators will decrease by one. Indeed, the agreement with Golden Entertainment reduces the quantity of independently run sportsbooks on the Vegas Strip by a third.

The Stratosphere was one of three independent sportsbook operators on the Vegas Strip. Once William Hill assumes control of the Stratosphere, only Wynn (and Encore) and Treasure Island will remain as independent sportsbook operators on the Vegas Strip.

Finding different odds and wagering opportunities is becoming increasingly challenging for sports bettors. This is because most sportsbooks on the Vegas Strip are run by two companies. Of the 26 casinos, MGM Resorts and Caesars Entertainment operate sportsbooks in 17.

Currently, William Hill is operating 7 out of 11 casinos in downtown Las Vegas. However, this number is set to decrease once the Stevens Group commences their operations later in the year.

Boyd Gaming runs sportsbooks in 10 casinos around Las Vegas, while Station Casinos manages 18 properties in Las Vegas, including Fiesta and Wildfire.

Remaining independent sportsbooks in Las Vegas

Despite the consolidation leading to the formation of large sportsbook operations, a few independent sportsbook operators continue to exist in Las Vegas. Thus, sports bettors in Las Vegas still have the chance to stumble upon unique betting opportunities at certain casinos.

William Hill is expanding across America, not just Nevada

William Hill, a European bookmaker, broadened their operations to the US through the acquisition of Lucky’s, Leroy’s, and Cal-Neva. They now manage over 100 sportsbooks of varying sizes and a mobile betting app in Nevada. Nevertheless, this expansion into Nevada was just the start for William Hill.

Recently, they have been entering into partnerships with casino operators and racetracks to run sportsbooks in different states as sports betting becomes legal. Currently, William Hill operates sportsbooks in states outside of Nevada, including:

  • Deleware
  • Mississippi
  • New Jersey
  • Pennsylvania
  • Rhode Island
  • West Virginia

William Hill stands as the sole sportsbook operator functioning in each state that permits legal sports betting. Their collaborations with Eldorado and Golden Entertainment symbolize the initial phase of William Hill’s US-wide expansion.
